I created this necklace from a Maori Fishhook of jade. From New Zealand, this Hei Matau (hook) Is believed to bring prosperity, good health and safe travel across water. It is also used to signify ones connection to the water. Maori symbols are shared across many New Zealand art forms (tattoo art and pounamu carving especially) and have symbolism or meaning that stems from their original use hundreds of years ago: to visually represent parts of the culture, belief system, and history of Maori. The symbols represent the future and past.

The original wrappings were beyond repair so I wrapped it with copper: coiled wire, plain wire and tiny labradorite micro-crystals and hung two labradorite beads as well. it is stunning and beautiful. The pendant is 2.75 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. It is hung on a 24 inch chain with a hand made s-hook clasp.
